ABSTRACT

In this work I have examined a range of phenomena involving front vocoids and coronal consonants. These include, among others, consonant-to-vowel assimilation, vowel-to-consonant assimilation, dissimilation and default assignment. By specifying front vocoids and coronal consonants with a common place articulator, I have shown that the affinity evidenced between these two groups of sounds is treated in a natural and non-arbitrary manner.
