Czechoslovakia: Higher Education, Science, and Change

Historical Development Czechoslovakia’s scientific activities are rooted in the past. They are connected with the establishment of Charles University in 1348, in Slovakia with the establishment of Academia Istropolitana in 1467, and, later, the University in Olomouc in 1573 andTrnava in 1635. The beginnings of technology originate with technical institutions such as Stavovska engineering school established in 1717, which had become a polytechnic school by the end of the nineteenth century.
