ABSTRACT
The, City Beautiful movement was the aesthetic renaissance that changed the appearance of many American cities in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Inspired principally by the “White City” of the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago, the City Beautiful was characterized by neoclassical architecture, massive buildings, grand avenues, large swaths of greenery, reflecting pools, civic centers, and a unity of design and scale. 1
