ABSTRACT

Masculinism would be a more apt definition of this sinister cult devoted to the reproduction of the female in the likeness of the male, at the expense of her age-long entity, for the “ new woman ” looks uncommonly like the old man and is “plus royaliste que le rot.” Woman, the essential artist, has inspired all the arts, winged a thousand songs, lent the colour of her personality to the painter’s brush, shaped the mariner’s course for the horizons of his dreams, or flung the banners of conquest across the world, requiring no medium other than the imagination of man. Every woman has it in her gift to endow some man with the vision of lordship, and kindle his ardour for life’s great emprise, the quest for the kingdom beyond the hills and the treasure at the rainbow’s end.
