ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the acculturation patterns of a single minority group within US organizations. The minority group chosen for this purpose is the Muslim population within the US Several factors contribute to our choice of the Muslim group. The first is the ever-increasing number of Muslim immigrants within the US society, in general, and in US organizations, in particular. To measure degree of religiosity, with some modifications, selected portions of an Islamic Resource Institute questionnaire which was distributed to Muslims at the 1992 Islamic Society of North America convention. The participants' patterns of acculturation to US national and organizational cultures were ascertained by measuring the extent to which they are willing to accept US national and organizational cultures, and/or retain their original national and organizational cultures. To statistically test the research hypotheses, canonical correlation, multiple regression, analysis of variance, chi-square and discriminant analysis were employed.
