ABSTRACT
From 1930 to 1961, the Dominican Republic was under the rule of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, a dictator whose ruthlessness, bloodthirsty acts, and ambitious will, historians claim, could be compared only to the nineteenth-century Argentinean dictator Juan Manuel Rosas. Trujillo had been trained by American soldiers during their first occupation of the Dominican Republic (1916–1924) and, during his long dictatorship, he kept a hermetic control of the Dominican people.
