ABSTRACT
German admiral and chief of the admiralty staff in 1915. Born on 13 July 1860 in Cammin, Bachmann joined the German navy in 1877 and held line and staff positions overseas and at home, where he impressed superiors with his intelligence and competent leadership of large fleet units. As chief of the Central Department of the Navy Office (1907-10) and later, Bachmann associated himself closely with Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz.
