ABSTRACT
Russian general, born into a noble Russian family in Orel Province on 20 December 1862. Zaionchkovsky graduated from the Nikolaevsky Engineering School in 1883 and the General Staff Academy in 1888. Seeing combat in the Russo-Japanese War, Zaionchkovsky rose from a regimental commander to brigade commander. In 1912 he was assigned the command of the 37th Infantry Division, from which he was promoted to Corps Commander in early 1915.
