ABSTRACT

The current Korean community in the United States is largely the product of the Immigration Act of 1965. The Korean American population in 1970 was less than 100,000, but more than 400,000 Koreans have been admitted to this country as legal immigrants since 1970. As a result, the Korean population in this country has increased to more than 800,000. Because recent Korean immigrants are the vast majority of the Korean American population, this chapter focuses on recent Korean immigrant families.
