ABSTRACT
A vision of hell recounted by Hildebrand (Gregory VII) before he became pope in 1073. The visionary is anonymous. In hell he sees a count who had died ten years previously He stands on a ladder with his ancestors below him and his descendants entering above him, and they descend rung by rung into the pit of hell.
