ABSTRACT

This Latin vision dates from 824. It was written in prose (length: c. 3500 words) by Heito (exabbate Augiensi et Basiliensi exepiscopo) in the same year and then re-composed in verse (length: c. 7000 words) by Walafrid Strabo in 837. This is the first account of a vision in verse. It was influenced by the Vision of Paul, the Apocalypse, and possibly the Vision of Barontus. It mentions the Dialogues of Gregory and its redactor may have known the visions of a Poor Woman and Rothcarius. Wetti is referred to in the Vision of Bernoldus.
