PEACE EDUCATION ON THE BACK OF THE PEACE MOVEMENT: SOME SHARED PROBLEMS
This chapter aims to define circumstances by which Polish education can adapt global education as one of the most interesting Western educational proposals. It is difficult to overestimate the potential significance of the incorporation of globalist assumptions for the future of Polish education. The main purpose of global education is to equip the young generation with a global awareness, which is the most important factor in order to materialize the globalist project, namely a world society. In Poland the 1990s is a time of serious confrontation of two political cultures: nation-centered and world-centered. Each offers different interpretations of such basic categories as freedom, pluralism, and democracy. World-centered education gives priority to universal over particular and accepts all global categories. It aims to overcome limitations resulting from narrow Polish patriotism and citizenship. Of the possible obstacles to the materialization of global education in Poland, the most obvious is the geopolitical position of Poland.
