ABSTRACT

Kasserine Pass (14-22 February 1943) [See map 23 on page 1333] Facing the closing jaws of two Allied armies as he retreated into Tunisia (q.v.), Field Marshal Erwin Rommel (q.v.) looked for ways of striking back, defeating one Allied army before the two could link up. General Sir Bernard L. Montgomery’s (q.v.) cautious advance across Libya gave Rommel a window of opportunity to seize the initiative, but he had to act fast.
