ABSTRACT

Hitler Youth The first efforts of the Nazi Party to establish a youth group date from March 1922 when a “Youth League of the National Socialist Workers Party” was founded. Led by Kurt Grubers, it en countered little success before 1926 when the or ganization was renamed “Hitler Youth, League of German Working Youth.” Prior to the Nazis com ing to power in January 1933, the leadership of the Hitler Youth was preoccupied with gaining an in

dependent position within the Nazi Party. Many considered it part of the SA, including Baldur von Schirach (qq.v.) who was appointed Reich youth leader in 1931.
