ABSTRACT

Jedburghs Jedburgh teams were Allied groups sent into France and the Low Countries to assist resistance movements in assuming a more active role during and after the invasion of Western Europe. They received their name from Jedburgh, Scotland, where they trained. The teams were international, usually consisting of one American, one French, and one British member. Some personnel came from the United States Office of Strategic Services (OSS) (q.v.) and more from the British Special Air Service (SAS) (q.v.). These men provided leader ship in guerrilla fighting rather than conducting espionage.
