T he occurrence o f undesirable chem ical agents and aerosols in the w o rk en v ironm en t gives rise to the study o f industria l tox ico logy . T he chem istry o f industrial tox ico logy is very largely organic chem istry, that is, chem istry m ostly based on study o f the relationsh ips o f carbon. It is the in ten t o f this chapter to p rov ide an overv iew o f the natu re o f som e o f these relationships and the te rm ino logy invo lved for those w h o have no b ack g ro u n d in organic chem istry .
