ABSTRACT

These mountain people may not be "citified" or have a great deal of "booklarnin';' but they have many qualities which are too often overlooked by actors. They are a colorful, exhilarating, exasperating folk who can be obstinately silent, brilliantly talkative, cruel and kind, spirited and lazy, but who are at all times basically democratic, trustworthy, courageous, and kind. The sincere actor would be wise to study these people in relation to their own surroundings rather than permit his urban surroundings to influence his judgment.
