ABSTRACT

The rehearsal period is when the creative process happens, and a happy and productive time is the best preparation for the theatre. The studio's facilities make a major contribution to the working atmosphere, so find the best hall you can afford. Important considerations are:

The dimensions Basic dimensions for a dance studio start from a minimum of 8.6m x 6.1m (25ft x 20ft). A small-scale company will need 12m x 13m (40ft x 43ft), rising to 18m x 19m (60ft x 63ft) for a large group. Headroom should be a minimum of 4.0m (13ft 2in) to a maximum of 6.0m (19ft Sin) - remember men jumping and lifts! If the studio is large enough, the dimensions of the eventual performance area, complete with wings, should be marked out on the floor with tape.
