ABSTRACT

Stanislavsky must be aware of what is going on not only in the large cities, but also in all outlying parts of the country. Let the actor observe and study the life and psychology of both his own nation and that of foreign nations. An actor cannot be merely someone, somewhere, at some time or other. A true artist is of a different opinion: he does not hold with type-casting, he plays all kinds of parts except those that go against the grain with him by reason of his convictions or taste. And our work gives us joy when we see that having fulfilled our task, put on a performance, played a role, actors have contributed something worthwhile to our audience, important to its life, for its development. Russian actors, painters and writers did not play fast and loose with life, rather they tried to show its revolting and its inspiring sides in order to educate their public.
