ABSTRACT
It is important at the beginning to make a distinction between the pure scientist, such as I was trained to be, and the applied scientist, who has responsibilities to a specific sponsor. What are the responsibilities of a pure scientist? To design good experiments, to push back the frontiers of knowledge, to report his observations carefully, not to “fudge” his data, but above all to go where his interests lead him.
