ABSTRACT

Different countries in Asia employ a wide range of rice-related policy instruments to increase production and provide a reliable, reasonably priced supply of rice for urbanites and other select consumer groups. As we have seen in chapters 12 and 16, much of the literature deals only with price policy, but price is only one element of the mix of policies employed at any given time. Furthermore, national policies change over time as incomes rise and other circumstances, such as the level of supply relative to demand, also change.
