ABSTRACT

In 1956, Bobby Fischer, then age thirteen, predicted, “I’m gonna win the [chess] world championship, hold it a couple of years, then take up something else and make a lot of money.” He would prove correct on all counts; he made good on the first part of his promise by defeating Russian Boris Spassky, 12–1/2 to 8–1/2, at Reykjavik, Iceland in August/September 1972.
