ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relative contributions of factors influencing preference to move upon retirement. This was accomplished using path analysis. Coveney and Rudd (1986) hypothesized and tested a causal model based on the Morris and Winter (1978) theory of housing adjustment to examine some determinants of housing satisfaction of rural, low-income, male family heads of work-force age. Their model had three levels: socio-demographic characteristics treated as exogenous variables, deficits or stressors as intervening variables and housing satisfaction as the endogenous variable. They measured household heads' maintenance skills as a socio-demographic variable, and viewed these maintenance skills as human resources able to be used to improve housing conditions.
