ABSTRACT

Flora Nwapa played a revolutionary role in African literature in the second half of the 20th century. She has left a phenomenal legacy. In 1966, she broke down the male monopoly over African writing with the publication of her first novel, EfuTU. By that singular act, Nigeria had produced not just its own first female novelist but also black Africa's first internationally published female novelist in the English language. EfuTU was a historic landmark.
