ABSTRACT

Drawing on life-story interviews with members of three generations of families, and hundreds of printed and recorded autobiographical recollections, Thompson, Itzen & Abendstern provide forceful confirmation that many people from their sixties to their eighties do not feel old. For many, later life is an active challenge and meaning and fulfilment are found in different and often strikingly creative ways. But, as the authors freely admit, this study is biased towards those who survive and even thrive in old age.
