BABBIE is a standard for most university course reading lists because his well-written books cover the ground on all aspects of the topic of surveys. Two chapters in this book provide practical advice on conceptualizing and designing an instrument and on index and scale construction. He is most thorough in covering the subject and offering suggestions on every issue, ranging from the type of data required to reproducing the questionnaire. This is one of the best books on the topic, both for its organization and coverage, but may be more useful for advanced readers.
