If a pathogen does enter the body, then antigens on its surface can activate the host organism’s immune system.

peak flow: a measure of the maximum rate at which air can be exhaled. Asthma is a condition in which the smooth muscle in the walls of the bronchi contracts. Together with the production of large amounts of mucus, this leads to a narrowing of the air ways and the formation of a blockage that limits the rate at which air can enter and leave the alveoli. With the use of a peak flow meter it is possible to monitor this rate and control asthmatic attacks with the timely use of appropriate drugs.
