ABSTRACT
Badoglio was Italian chief of staff and a political leader. Following the overthrow ofMussolini (q.v.), Badoglio negotiated the surrender to the Allies. When Germany occupied Italy and attacked Italian forces, Badoglio announced a state of war with Nazi Germany.
