ABSTRACT

I t's easy to get excited about using the Internet and the Web. They're vi-

vacious, interesting, and important places to work, learn, do business, and just have fun. The World Wide Web always seems to have something new. You find not only new resources, but also better services and programs, making the WWW and the Internet easier to use and more powerful. There's also a great deal of diversity; different cultures, nations, and outlooks are represented on the Internet. All these things make for an exciting environment, but as the Internet and the World Wide Web become more popular and the number of users increases, it's reasonable to expect rules, regulations, and laws governing their use. You also have to consider the effect the Internet has on our lives, our communities, and society as its use becomes more widespread. In this chapter we'll discuss a few of these issues associated with using the Internet and the World Wide Web.
