ABSTRACT
The year was dominated by the outbreak of the Russian Revolution, which would release Germans troops for service elsewhere, and the declaration of war on Germany by the United States. Italy came close to being knocked out of the war and the French Army mutinied, leaving Britain to bear the brunt of the campaign on the Western Front. German allies Austria-Hungary and Turkey were also growing military and political decline.
