ABSTRACT

What do the general social and economic trends of the future mean for soil conservation? By soil conservation, we mean the whole broad movement or program for the preservation of basic productive capacity in soils, forests, and grazing lands; nor do we exclude some efforts at building additional capacity. We also have in mind much more than the programs of the federal government, and more specifically those of the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), although these are a major part of the whole. The efforts of farmers and other landowners, of local and state governments, conservation organizations of all kinds, and others are included.
