ABSTRACT

Where requirements for water exceed the supply available from existing facilities under existing practices, conscious adjustment of either supply or demand may be possible so as to bring supply and requirements into balance. In such cases technology can help in achieving this. In almost every instance the techniques are consciously applied where supply deficiencies are evident, as they are in arid lands, or where a single use may preclude most subsequent uses of the same water, as in waste carrying. For example, techniques for reduction of waste-carrying requirements can make available for other beneficial use water which would not otherwise have been available.
