Reading in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1

This is a very important question. In the first chapter we described a scenario, familiar to us all , where children were called to the teacher who listened to them read on an individual basis Oulie was allowed a sherbet pip from a Tartan Shortbread tin if she read all of her words correcdy!). Although this type of reading (withollt the sugary reward) may still take place in school, it is often considered an additional reading activity to offer support rather than the only method of teaching reading.
