ABSTRACT

The multi-sensory approach is an effective and proven teaching style to use with fragile X syndrome pupils who have problems with learning and short-term memory. The approach involves reviewing daily the previous day's work, planning systematic revision of work covered, pre-teaching new vocabulary. Opportunities for new work/skills to be used in different situations can be provided. It is better to always use appropriate written or spoken language to adjust to different ability levels. Multiple-choice answers have to be provided to questions for reducing pupils' reliance on memory.
