ABSTRACT
A discussion of the skills empowerment approach in leadership introduces the interview with Professor Daniel Khan, Principal and CEO of the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education. Daniel discusses his approach to leadership, and experience with values clarification and empowerment in learning. He places students at the heart of everything, believing strongly that ‘every learner matters’, and asserts the values of authenticity, vulnerability, trust, honesty and Integrity in leadership, placing a high priority also on economic efficiency. Deriving from the Caribbean, Daniel’s missionary zeal to educate students for empowerment was inspired by his father, who said to all the children that for his legacy, ‘What I will give you all is an education’.
