What is dyslexia?

DeMarco and Givens (1989) suggest that even when children with significant and long-standing levels of glue ear have surgery and can hear better, there may well be continuing weaknesses that could not be predicted. In a case study, they showed that whilst some weaknesses in hearing were indeed overcome when sounds were heard at a louder level, some of the speech discrimination issues still remained.
