ABSTRACT

There is a large body of research linking speech and language difficulties in early childhood to later literacy problems. As much as possible should be done pre-school to help a child at risk. Therefore, early identification is really important. If children suffer from hearing difficulties, earache or glue ear over a significant period of time, the likelihood is that they will have a slow start to speech and communication and may have later problems with the acquisition of the written word.
