Autonomy

In the view of adolescents, being controlled by adults is what happens to children. They are no longer children, therefore many conflicts develop around adolescents wishing to make choices that the adults in their lives disagree with. But if we as adults are to respect the rights of adolescents to make choices, then we have to accept that there will be times when their choices are not in their best interests. We must remember that adults make mistakes as well - and they have the right to make those mistakes.
