Risk taking

Behaviours that an individual would not engage in on his or her own can become permissible within a group context. The individual may well believe that the fact that the group does not object to his or her behaviour means that they approve of it. Within relatively unstable groups there will be few established rules controlling behaviour, which can result in individuals acting out of character, as if the group were taking responsibility for their behaviour rather than the individuals themselves.
