ABSTRACT

‘Higher’ education, however defined, is enjoyed by only a tiny minority of girls in developing countries. Obviously, the number of students receiving advance education and training is closely related to the general level of development. On the one hand, a country must have reached a certain level before it can afford to give most of its young people lengthy education, and, on the other hand, the opportunities for using highly educated people in an efficient way occur more or less pari passu with economic development.
