ABSTRACT

This chapter is a general guide to the installation of grid-tied PV systems. The previous chapter which describes these components and their functioning should be read first and in conjunction with this chapter. National codes and guidelines and manufacturer's manuals always need to be referred to. A list of relevant national electrical codes and guidelines is given in 7.1 Installation codes and guidelines.

All electrical work carried out on grid-tied PV systems should be carried out by suitably qualified persons who are aware of national code requirements with regard to the installation itself and safe working practices. The work involves higher voltages than are found on regular building distribution wiring, working with DC electricity rather than the more familiar AC and other particular hazards. Installers should also know how to deal with an electrical accident should one occur.
