ABSTRACT
Contingency plans for dealing with accidents to radioactive materials in transit are prepared by the industry itself. This is a legal obligation under regulation 27 of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1985. Some plans are intended for particular materials or operators; others have a wider application. There are also differences in the extent to which their details have been made public.
