Lille was a major manufacturing centre that has r cenlly become a centre for s rvice industries. Since 19911ho I.IlIe Metropolitan Area AuLhurity (CUDL) has begun to r volulionize Its wasle management system wiLh Ihe objective of recycling and composting its wast stream in the most cost-effective manner po sibl . CUOl., consisting of 86 municipalities and a total population of over 1 million, is in the process of replacing its current waste di posal system with a new waste system with an emphasi on recycling. It is pending $400 million over Len years on replacing
all its collection and treatment equipment to create a comprehensive new waste mana ement system.
