ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to conserve Migratory species of wild animals that migrate across or outside national boundaries by developing and implementing co-operative agreements, prohibiting taking of endangered species, conserving habitat, and controlling other adverse factors. With respect to endangered migratory species, Parties that are Range States are to prohibit the taking of animals belonging to such species, with a few exceptions. Range States are to endeavour to conserve and, where possible, restore the habitats of these species; eliminate, prevent, or minimize impediments to their migration; and prevent, reduce, or control factors endangering them. Parties to the Convention should inform the Conference of the Parties every three years of measures they are taking to implement the Convention for species listed in the Appendices. Parties are required to inform the Secretariat of those species in the Appendices of which they consider themselves to be Range States.
