ABSTRACT

It was during the summer of 1989 that Walsall's GPs began to voice their concerns about the methods of toxic waste disposal. At the annual British Medical Association conference, the Walsall doctors demanded that an inquiry be set up to determine whether human ill-health was a consequence of toxic waste disposal. The Walsall communities had complained incessantly to their GPs about sore throats, burning eyes, skin irritations. The GPs knew how to treat their symptoms but nothing more. The BMA ordered an inquiry.
