ABSTRACT

Portugal’s aid policy aims at improving the economic situation as well as the promotion of democracy in the Portuguese speaking countries of Africa. Rehabilitation of socioeconomic structures and support for the Portuguese language are also important aspects of Portugal’s ODA. ODA net disbursements rose significantly to US$308 million in 1994 which corresponds to 0.35% of GNR However, the increase resulted from larger debt refinancing operations and does not reflect larger budget appropriations for aid.
