ABSTRACT
In the 1997/8 Budget announcements, New Zealand’s Overseas Development Assistance (NZODA) received a boost of approximately 0.01% of GNR This was in line with increases in previous years. However, during the year the Bougainville peace process, in which New Zealand played a strong facilitating role, led to around NZ$3 million being transferred from NZODA to the defence budget.
