ABSTRACT

Religious education (RE) needs a sound basis upon which to build. Each religion has an ethical dimension so morality is within religion. Equally a person can follow a moral code without it being within a religion. The consultant needs to be aware of the teachers who are doing moral education and not RE and point them in the right direction. The first and most important task of the consultant is to ensure that good primary practice takes place in this subject area. RE needs a sound basis upon which to build. The area of multicultural education should not really be the preserve of RE. Liaison with the local secondary school helps the consultant to keep an overview of his/her subject area and the way it advances in secondary education. Courses often bring together RE teachers from the locality, making the liaison and support process between schools easier.
