ABSTRACT

At the beginning of Chapter 10, we defined the part of the total field of computers in education that we consider to be within the scope of this book. This part, which we choose to call Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI), was sub-divided into six different modes (see Figure 10.1):

The TESTING mode.

The DRILL-AND-PRACTICE mode.

The PROGRAMMED TUTORIAL mode.

The CONVERSATIONAL or DIALOGUE TUTORIAL mode.

The SIMULATION mode.

The INQUIRY or DATABASE SEARCH mode.
