ABSTRACT

In this chapter we examine four examples of work with young people of school age, between eight and 16 years. This age-range is wide and encompasses a period of major development; it includes children at primary school and young people preparing to leave school to take up employment. Nevertheless, there is one theme with which the whole of the formal and informal educational process to age 16 is concerned. This is to help young people achieve suitable levels of skill, autonomy and motivation in order that they can effectively make the transition from childhood to adulthood; from the world of school to the world of work.
